"Andrew Jackson"
(1767-1845) a US soldier and politician in the Democratic
Party who was the President of the US from 1829 to 1937.
He became popular because of his success as a military
leader in the battles against the creek tribe in 1812
and against the British in 1815. His picture is printed
on the US twenty-dollar bill. (LDOCE)
"Thomas Jefferson"
(1743-1826) the third President of the US, from 1801 to 1809. Jefferson was an important member of the Continental Congress and wrote most of the Declaration of Independence. When he was president, the US bought the Louisiana Purchase, and the slave trade officially stopped being legal. (LDOCE)
